History

IronSkull was as an ambitious idea to create a painting competition for the community, with it’s main aim to reduce barriers for anyone wanting to start their journey in the competitive painting scene.

As an avid competition attendee, winner and tutor for Siege Studios painting classes, I heard from many miniature painters that they felt anxious or unsure about whether they should participate in a painting competition. This made me question why so many aspiring painters were hesitant to get involved. Through numerous conversations over the years, feedback gave birth to a scaled award system allowing you to track your progress as a competitor with ease of entry, feedback at the event and a great social gathering to allow you to converse with friends and be in the company of some of the best painters in the world.

And so IronSkull was born early 2019. After months of rigorous planning, the format and brand of the competition began to take shape. The IronSkull inaugural event was held in February of 2020 which showcased an incredible success with over 350 entrants traveling from around the world. I was humbled by the positivity from the first event and eagerly looked at planning the next, until Covid 19 happened.

Four years have passed, and the industry and competition scene has grown substantially. Over the years, I’ve been asked numerous times if IronSkull would return…… and now it finally has.
